Four schoolgirls of the Patentia Secondary School in Region Three are currently hospitalised after they allegedly consumed an illegal drug.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday and is being investigated by the Guyana Police Force and the Ministry of Education.
Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, Murtland Haley told the News Room that the girls are being treated at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
“A welfare officer is presently at the hospital as well,” Haley said.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Regional Commander Mahendra Siwnarine confirmed the incident but stated that investigators have not been able to gather any ‘useful information’ and that persons involved remain ‘tight-lipped’.
He also could not state the type of drugs the girls consumed.
