Day care centres will soon be established all across the country as part of efforts to support young mothers pursuing education and teachers, President Dr. Irfaan Ali announced on Wednesday.

The Head of State, in a Teachers’ Day message on his Facebook page, said this initiative is part of efforts at making education more accessible across Guyana.

“What will cost a lot of money is the creation of day care centres across the country to support teachers and young mothers who want to advance and who should not be denied the advancement of their professional career,” President Ali said.

This initiative, he said, will be initiated in the coming year.

It is also expected to provide teachers with more time to prepare lesson notes and focus on children.

In his message, he also noted that the government will be improving access to online training for all teachers as part of an effort to guarantee that all local teachers are trained.

Already, nearly 2,150 teachers are studying under the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) programme.

“This is an opportunity that never existed and over the last two years, we have been able to deliver this to teachers.

“They are enrolling in large numbers,” Dr. Ali said.

More than 2,500 teachers, he said, and also pursuing higher education programmes at the Bachelor’s degree level, Master’s level, or at the PhD level.

Beyond that, teachers’ training at the Cyril Potter’s College of Education (CPCE) has been shifted online to allow more teachers to get training.

Excellent performance of the Guyana government. See this is a government of the people. Increase salaries and these increases goes into exploiters hands. Now the government is reducing expenses by providing free day care and this would also include the other working mothers. Then free education up to and including tertiary education.
Then the cash grants to the families, creation of new jobs. Oil refinery… oh what an excellent Guyana under this leadership.
