Beacons Football Club secured their first point in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) STAG Premier League, following their 2 – 2 draw with table-leaders Santos FC last evening at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground.
Playing the opening game of the double-header, Flamingo’s miserable showing in the league continued after losing 3 – 1 to Riddim Squad, who scored their second win in five outings.
In the Beacons/Santos clash, many expected the league leaders to walk away with the win, given the fact that their young squad was in superb form, winning their four previous matches to remain unbeaten in the eight-team tournament.
Dwayne McLennon, who finished the night with double, put Santos in the lead ten minutes into the contest, before making it 2 – 0 eight minutes later.
However, Fabian Grainford fired in Beacons’ first goal in the 22nd minute but his side trailed 2 – 1 at the end of the first half.
As the two sides battled in a heated exchange, though failing to find the net, it was Chris Galloway who would pulled the ‘rabbit out the hat’ for Santos with his goal in the closing seconds of regulation (90+3 minutes).
The result was a fitting one for Beacons, who lost their four previous outings in the league.
Riddim Squad outplayed a hapless Flamingo with Sheldon Holder (6th), Dwayne O’Reilly (10th) and Aqwill Liefde (90+4) scoring for the Mocha Arcadia based team. Flamingo’s goal came off the boot of Leon Yaw in the 34th minute.
