Public Health Minister, Dr. George Norton was today (March 29) given a tour of the Texila American University at Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara, as well as the construction site of the University’s Providence, East Bank Demerara location, which is expected to be completed by August 2016.
Minister Norton was briefed on the practical and theoretical work being done by students studying at the University.
Minister Norton was impressed by the modern learning facilities at the Goedverwagting campus which include a Digital Library and Information Technology Center and Modern and high-tech Labs for Healthcare Education.
The Public Health minister was particularly impressed by the plan to have the new campus powered solely by Solar Panels, and assured officials from the University of government’s support as they improve and expand their facilities.
With the Specialty Hospital coming on stream, the quality of the training the University offers in Guyana will be improved, since that hospital will have a teaching aspect, he pointed out.
The University, which was established here in 2010, currently has 532 students from more than 35 Countries studying at its two campuses.
The programmes offered are the Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Dentistry, Bachelors in Nursing and Premedical Foundation Programme.
