Government has reported that the Office of Climate Change (OCC) has intensified its efforts, over the Easter weekend, to transition Bartica, Region Seven into a thriving green locale.

“The OCC capitalised on the occasion of the Bartica Regatta to step-up its engagements with residents and visitors alike, providing pertinent information on initiatives to foster a green economy and informing them about their roles and responsibilities as citizens of a green town,” a release from the Ministry of the Presidency stated.

An information booth was set up where residents were able to collect brochures and other paraphernalia on a green economy and they were updated on the transitioning process.

The OCC has organised several activities to specifically target school children.

A debate competition is scheduled for May with students of the Bartica and the Three-Miles Secondary schools, followed by a spelling bee competition for primary students. These activities will be done in collaboration with the Department of Education in Bartica.

In addition a mobile app, which is currently being developed, will also be launched in May. The application will ensure that information on Guyana’s first green town is readily available to citizens across the country.
