The Guyana Police Force Police has confirmed that Special Constable 14536 Akeem Hyles, 22 years, of the Tactical Services Unit was among a team of Joint Services personnel and officials of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) in a boat in the Amatuk Falls area, Potaro River, when the vessel capsized.
The body has been recovered and arrangements are being made to bring it to Georgetown.
According to the police, the Special Constable had departed Ogle Airport this morning (April 8) among other ranks who were despatched to assist the GGMC officials in dealing with illegal mining that was being carried out in the Kaieteur National Park area.
The Guyana Police Force is extending sincere condolences to the parents, relatives and friends of the youngman.
