Fruta Conquerors stun Alpha United … Slingerz ‘the unstoppable’ too strong for Pele FC

Slingerz FC continued their dominance in Guyana’s football and remains the only undefeated team in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) STAG Elite League (Finale) following their 2 – 1 win over Pele FC.

But the story of last night’s (April 8) double-header, was Fruta Conquerors’ 3 – 1 stunner over Alpha United; the first win for the SM Jaleel sponsored team over the ‘Hammers’ in approximately four years.

Playing at the national Track and Field Facility at Leonora, Fruta Conquerors handed Alpha United their second loss of the league’s Finale.

The team, coached by Calvin Allen, had to do without their leading goalscorer and one of the most exciting players  in the league, Shaquille Agard, who, on the eve of the game, was ruled ineligible by the GFF, pending an investigation on his transfer from Canada’s League1 Ontario to Fruta Conquerors.

The Tucville-based club played led 1 – 0 at the half way mark with Jahall Greaves finding the net in the 31st minute.

Eon Alleyne extended the club’s lead in the 66th minute while Hubert Pedro put the icing on the cake in the 85th minute to cap what has been one of the most brilliant display of football seen so far in the league.

Delon Lanferman netted Alpha United’s lone goal in the game as Coach Wayne Dover’s side remain in third place on the standings with 14 points from eight games; four wins, two draws to match their two defeats.

It was business as usual for Slingerz FC. Winning has become more than a habit for the club who’s only loss in the League came in the Genesis round; forfeiting their game against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF). Slingerz would’ve later went to on to take the title.

Devon Millington (32nd) and Dominican Julian Wade (58th) found the net for Slingerz while Jumane Somerset scored Pele’s only goal in the 90th minute.

Pele FC, in their eight games played, only managed to secure two wins, one draw but their five defeats paints an entirely different picture for a club that finished third place in League Genesis behind Slingerz and Alpha United.

Meanwhile the STAG Elite League (Finale) will continue tonight (April 9) at the No.5 Ground, Berbice with a double-header.

The Georgetown Football Club and Monedderlust will be chasing their first win in the league (Finale) when they collide in the night’s second game at 20:00 hours, while Buxton United will match strides with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) from 18:00 hours.
