Monedderlust picks up first win; GDF secures crucial three points
Monedderlust and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) became the latest teams to secure wins in the STAG Elite League (Finale) when the action continued at the No.5 Ground, Berbice last evening (April 9).
The win was Monedderlust first, while for the Army, it was their fourth, which will see them (GDF) being levelled with Alpha United on 14 points.
However, Alpha United’s superior goal difference gives them some leverage over the GDF and will remain in third place behind Slingerz FC and Fruta Conquerors.
Monedderlust edged the Georgetown Football Club 1 – 0 to pick up their first full three points in the league’s Finale round, ending their losing streak.
But the struggle continues for the GFC who are yet to secure a win in eight outings. The North Road Bourda-based team’s performance reignited discussions about their selection to be part of the eight-team Elite League.
In Berbice, the team simply went through the motion of being on the pitch and it was if Monedderlust was playing by themselves.
The 1 – 0 score-line itself could not have painted a picture of how poorly played was the game between the two but in the end, the Berbicians got the winning goal from Travis Henry.
Meanwhile, Olvis Mitchell and Delroy Fraser fired the Army to a much needed win, as the team coached by Denzil Thompson look to better their performance from League Genesis and finish in the top four.
