Women’s Football Association to host ‘Revival football tournament’ this weekend

With the aim of developing women’s football in Guyana, the National Association for Women’s Football (NAFWF) will be hosting a two-day ‘Revival of Women’s Football Tournament’ at the Tucville Community Centre Ground.

 

The event, scheduled for April 16 – 17, will feature 10 teams hailing from Essequibo, Georgetown, West Demerara, Berbice, Linden and Lethem.

 

A release from the association states that the tournament will be made possible with assistance from the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples Affairs.

 

The release further states that the tournament is also “geared at regenerating media and stake holder interest in supporting the development of young girls and women through football”.

 

Each team will be placed in two groups of five for a round-robin stage. The top two teams in each group will go on to the knock-out stage.

 

The participating teams are:

 

Fruta Conquerors  FC ‘A’ (G/town)

Fruta Conquerors  FC ‘B’ (G/town)

Fruta Conquerors  FC ‘C’ (G/town)

Foxy Ladies FC (West Dem)

NA Warriors  FC (New Amsterdam , Berbice)

West Side Conquerors  FC (West Berbice)

Demerara Queens (Linden)

Piaomak Warriors (Lethem)

Essequibo Warriors (Essequibo)

Striking Dolls (Bartica)
