A last second goal by Leron Charles salvaged a deserving 1 – 1 draw for the Guyana Police Football Club with Western Tigers, while Flamingo earned a 3 – 0 win over Beacons when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) STAG Premier League continued last evening (April 27) at the GFC Ground.
Western Tigers imposed themselves as the team to beat in the league, having won seven of their nine games, prior to last night’s encounter with the lawmen, while also picking up one draw and a lone defeat to sit comfortable on top with 22 points.
The first half saw the two teams having their fair share of ball possession but it was Western Tigers who seemed a bit a more composed.
Devon Forde would eventually put Western Tigers in the lead with his 43rd minute goal and the West Ruimveldt team enjoyed a 1 – 0 cushion heading into the second half.
Despite several goal scoring chances, both teams failed to capitalised on the countless opportunities as Western Tigers got comfortable thinking that another three points was in the bag.
However, Charles and his teammates had other plans. The Policemen held their composer and Charles netted home the important goal in stoppage time.
Meanwhile, it was a walk in the park for Flamingo over the struggling Beacons. Orlando Rickets, scored in the 38th minute while Mathew Nedd and Dwayne Layne scored the other two goals for Flamingo who handed Beacons there eighth loss of the league.
