Omar Brewley named MVP as Eagles United wins UDFA U-17 League

The Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) Under-17 league wrapped up on Wednesday (June 8) with Eagles United emerging as Champions, after Omar Brewley led them to a 1 – 0 win over Amelia’s Ward United at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground.

 

 

The match saw the first half ending scoreless, as both team shined defensively, but, after the break, Brewley’s relentless attacking plays, finally paid off.

 

The 16-year old striker, considered one of Linden’s top prospects, managed to break down the Amelia’s Ward Panthers’ defence, to hammer home the game’s lone goal in the 54th minute, scoring from on top of the ’18’.

 

The game maintained its intensity with the Panthers striking in the 70th minute, but the goal was disallowed which saw the Eagles soaring to a 1 – 0 victory.

 

In the third place match up Net Rockers made light work of Mile Rock when Reon Tappin scored the first goal in the 26th minute, and Joel Isaacs netted the second and third goals in the 60th and 66th minutes respectively, securing 3 – 0 win and the third place trophy.

 

Brewley, for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament, was awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Joel Isaacs copped the most goals prize.

 

The tournament which saw 12 teams being placed into two groups of six, played over a nine weeks period and was sponsored by: Petra Organization, BOSAI Minerals, Dave and Celina’s and Sports plus.
