Top players of GOA badminton tournament rewarded

The top performers of the Guyana Olympic Association’s (GOA) annual open doubles badminton tournament were rewarded for their outstanding display in the recently concluded tournament, held at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

 

The players received their medals at a simple ceremony at the GOA head office in Kingston, as well as certificates for participating in the GOA Olympic Day Jog/Run/Walk.

 

Priyanna Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj copped the Ladies Doubles title; Sun Burst champion Narayan Ramdhani and Jonathon Mangra lifted the Men’s Doubles title; and the Ramdhani siblings linked up to win the Mixed Doubles category.

 

Special prizes were also presented to past national champion William Holder, most improved player Gabriella Pertab, upcoming player Fardeen Alli, and Narayan Ramdhani for his outstanding achievements in 2016.

 

Narayan, who is the 2015 Junior Sportsman-of-the-Year, is the current national champion, a world ranked junior player, Suriname International triple champion, Peru International bronze medallist, GUMDAC champion, Trophy Stall champion and GOA champion.

 

Receiving certificates for their involvement in the GOA Olympic Day Jog/Run/Walk were Gokarn Ramdhani, Emelia Ramdhani, Narayan Ramdhani, Priyanna Ramdhani, Fardeen Alli, Jonnedd Taylor, Ariel Haynes, Gail Haynes, Medharishi Ramdhani, Susan Ramdhani, Ayanna Watson, Kara Abrams and
Cecil Abrams.

 

Meanwhile, the Guyana Badminton Association would like to thank the GOA, National Sports Commission, Sun Burst Juices, Banks DIH, parents and players for making the annual GOA tournament a success.
