52-year-old fatally shot by police during drug bust- 4 in custody

52-year-old Nigel Joseph of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was fatally shot by police during a Drug Bust on the East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Thursday.

According to the police, at about 16:40 hours, acting on information that a large-scale drug transaction was being conducted at a Hotel, at Ogle, ECD, the police went to the hotel to investigate.

It was noted that as they were approaching the suspects with a view of arresting them, they came under fire. The police then returned fire during which the suspect, Joseph, was fatally shot.

The police recovered one Smith and Wesson 9mm firearm and 5 kilo, 535 grams of cocaine.

Four persons are in custody assisting the police with the investigations.
