The 45-year-old mother of three girls; ages 10, 7 and 5 who were allegedly raped by their step-father was on Tuesday 19th July 2016, charged with three counts of Neglect and placed on $150,000 bail.
Venus Lalloo a domestic worker of Edinburgh Village East Bank Berbice (EBB) appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at the Sister’s Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
It is alleged that on the 15th July 2016 at Edinburgh Village, she willfully contributed to her children aged 10, 7, & 5 being in need of protective intervention, omitted to do so thereby causing harm to the said child/children.
Bail was objected by the prosecutor but was overruled by the magistrate. She was charged with three counts of Neglect of Child with $50,000 for each.
She is expected to return to court on the 16th August 2016.
The woman has a total of 14 children.
On July 15, the three girls were taken to the New Amsterdam Police Station by a School’s Welfare Officer after being picked up on the Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice (EBB) Seawall. After being questioned, the girls said they were abused and told to leave their home, following which a medical examination was conducted.
The examination confirmed that the sisters were subjected to some form of sexual abuse and they were admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital for treatment and tests.
Meanwhile, the step-father who is being accused was arrested at his home on Friday. He is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
