Taxi driver stabbed multiple times

A man was on Tuesday stabbed multiple times about his body by a passenger at East Canje, Berbice who attempted to hijack his vehicle.

The injured man has been identified as Chunilal Dudnauth, a taxi driver of 53 East Canefield Settlement, Berbice. The man received stab wounds to the face, back and hands.

According to information received, the suspect entered the silver Nissan Bluebird, bearing licence number HC 4977, at New Amsterdam and asked to be taken to Welfare Street, East Canje.

While arriving to his alleged destination, the man pulled out a knife and proceeded to stab Dudnauth who began shouting for help. He then threw him out of the vehicle and attempted to drive off, but instead backed the car into a nearby drain.

Relatives of Doodnauth told News Room that he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

The perpetrator managed to escape after the car ended up in a nearby trench.

Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
