Unidentified man crushed by 40ft Container

A man was moments ago crushed to death at the corners of Coral Street and Avenue of the Republic when a 40ft Container truck came into contact with him.

The container truck which had just cleared customs and departed the John Fernandes Wharf was reportedly heading south on Avenue of the Republic and the man attempting to cross the road when the accident took place.

It is unclear whether the traffic light at the junction was operational at the time of the accident and if it was, whether the truck driver or the pedestrian breached the light.

When the News Room arrived at the scene of the accident, the man’s brain and other parts of his body could be seen scattered on the roadway while the truck was parked a few meters before the junction of Avenue of the Republic and Brickdam.

Several police officers turned up at the scene in an effort to efficiently keep the crowd at bay and divert traffic from the accident scene.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
