‘Hit And Run’ Driver caught

Driver of Toyota Corolla 192 bearing license plate, PLL 3946 who struck down David Murray at Number 51 Village, East Berbice-Corentyne on Monday evening was caught on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old driver allegedly responsible for the death of the 26-year-old pedestrian is currently at the #51 Police Station assisting with investigations.

 

According to information gathered Matthew Lutchana of Willamsburg Village, Corentyne was heading home from the #63 beach at about 19:30 hrs on Monday evening at a fast rate when he struck down Murray who was walking along the public road. He then escaped the scene of the accident.

 

Lutchana was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

News Room understands that Lutchana who is an overseas-based Guyanese related the incident to a relative at Black Bush Polder. He was then taken to the police station.

 

Sources revealed that the now dead man had just departed a function in the village and on his way home stopped to visit a friend, Anita Ramraj who lives five houses away. Ramraj said that upon hearing the impact, she rushed to the scene.

 

Murray was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
