As part of the Guyana Police Force’s 177th anniversary celebrations, the Police in B Division organised a day of sports for the various Police youth groups in the division at the Scott School Ground in New Amsterdam.

Speaking with reporters following the event, the Commander of B Division, Ian Amsterdam, explained that ‘all work and no play makes jack a dull boy’.

“So today we are still celebrating our 177th anniversary and today’s event is as part of our divisional activities where we decided to bring all our youths together, along with police ranks in the division, to host a day of sport where we can interact, have fun and relax,” he related.

The day of sports is another move by members of the Guyana Police Force to ensure youths are actively involved with the police in an effort to build a relationship between the police force and members of each community through sports.

Throughout the day the youths were involved in novelty events such as football, cricket, dominoes and other sporting activities where members of the Guyana Police Force competed with members of the community policing groups.

Only recently, the Police in B Division, spearheaded by Commander Amsterdam, collaborated with the Board of Industrial Training to launch a four to six months skills training programme for youths in Region Six to ensure that they are provided with the necessary skills to acquire a job or to open their own business.

The programme caters for 60 participants from as young as 15 years old. They will be trained in the areas of garment construction, block making, radio and electrical servicing, information technology, catering and cake decoration, heavy duty equipment operator and mechanic.
