    Berbice woman remanded for trafficking marijuana

    A Stanleytown, New Amsterdam woman was remanded to prison for being in possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
    Roselin Fernandes who was arrested after she was found to be in the possession of over 34 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking appeared in court on Friday, August 12, 2016. She pleaded not guilty to two counts of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charges.
    The court heard that on Thursday, August 11,2016, acting on information received, ranks from the special unit and police officers went to  a house at 42 Stanleytown New Amsterdam.
    A search was conducted during which a plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found under a board in the vicinity of a bathroom belonging to the accused.
    Additional checks were made on the house and nineteen small plastic bags were found containing the same items. The first set of cannabis were weighed and amounted to 22 grams while the other set amounted to 14.464 grams.
    Fernandes was told of the offences committed after which she was arrested and charged.
    She is expected to make another court appearance on August 26,2016.
