A labourer succumbed on Friday, August 12, 2016, after ingesting a poisonous substance at his mother’s home a few days before.

Dead is 30-year-old Mahendra Singh of 64 Village, Corentyne Berbice.

According to information received, the man might have committed the act in fear of being jailed for unlawful wounding; a matter which is currently engaging the court.

News Room was informed that the victim attended the number 51 Magistrates court on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, in relation to the matter. He subsequently returned home and informed his relatives that he was confused about the court case and that he believes that he is going to be jailed.

Singh went to work as per normal and returned home at about 16:00 hours. He then took a shower and left to go visit his mother who lives several houses away.

According to the police, at about 17:30 hrs, Singh’s four-year-old son ran home and told his mother that his father who was at his grandmother, was vomiting.

Minutes after, the wife heard screaming and immediately rushed over to her mother-in-law’s home where she found her husband lying on the ground with a greenish substance suspected to be gramaxone, dripping from his mouth.

The man was picked up by neighbours and rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where he was admitted to the male ward.

Singh succumbed while receiving treatment last evening.

He has left to mourn his wife, two children, mother and other relatives and friends.
