Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred about 05:15hrs this morning on the Chelsea Public Road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D).
The accident resulted in the death of a British Citizen, 58-year-old Bibi Haroon O’Donovan of 15 Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice (W.C.B.)
Enquires disclosed that the deceased and her daughter who is also a British Citizen, 23-year-old Shaneeza Lewis were passengers in motor car HC 6753 which was proceeding west of Chelsea Public Road, at a fast rate.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the rear of a stationary lorry, on the opposite side of the road.
The occupants were rushed to Mahaicony Public Hospital where O’Donovan was pronounced dead on arrival, while Lewis was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state.
The driver is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
