Police hunting for mastermind behind Edingburg robbery

The police in ‘B’ Division are hunting for a man who is believed to be the mastermind behind the brazen robbery committed on a businessman and his family in which one bandit was killed at Edingburg, East Bank Berbice on Sunday, August 21, 2016.
According to the Commander of B Division Ian Amsterdam, the deceased bandit while being taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital for medical attention told an officer that he was among a gang of five persons and provided police with the name “long hair” who he works with.
Amsterdam noted that he believes the men are operating a new gang out of the Canje area. He said investigations are also being conducted to determine whether the men are also responsible for several robberies across the New Amsterdam/ Canje areas.
So far two persons have been arrested in connection with the robbery.
On Sunday the businessman, 45-year-old Nandkumar Datt was at home with his family resting when at about 01:30 hours he was aroused by strange sounds coming from a shed adjoining the house. The family was robbed of jewellery, phone cards and cash amounting to one Million dollars.
