Silver and bronze for Guyana at CAREBACO
The individual segment of the Caribbean Badminton International Open Under-19 Championships (CAREBACO) in Aruba concluded at the weekend at the Centro Deportivo Sports Hall with Guyana copping six medals.
The three-member team, consisting of Sun Burst champion Narayan Ramdhani, Jonathan Mangra and Priyanna Ramdhani captured four silver and two bronze medals after four days battling with players from the Dominican Republic, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba and Suriname.
Overall results are: Narayan Ramdhani- two silver in the Boys Doubles and Mixed Doubles and one Bronze in the Boys Singles; Priyanna Ramdhani- one silver in the Mixed Doubles and one bronze in the Girls Singles; and Jonathan Mangra- one bronze.
In the final, Narayan Ramdhani and Priyanna Ramdhani lost to Shae Martin and Amanda Haywood of Barbados 21-9, 21-16 in the Mixed Doubles.
In the Boys Doubles final, Narayan Ramdhani and Jonathan Mangra lost to Shae Martin and Keshem Moore of Barbados in a thrilling three-setter with Guyana winning the first set and losing the next two 17-21, 21-15, 21-19.
The Guyana four-member team of Narayan Ramdhani, Jonatahn Mangra, Priyanna Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj will now be participating in the team events, which started on Monday. Guyana is placed in Group B with Barbados and Aruba, while Group A consists of the Dominican Republic, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
