A man who was captured by police after robbing a grocer at LogWood, Enmore, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D) on Monday, August 29, 2016, has confessed to committing several other armed robberies in the district.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the suspect was positively identified during several identification parades conducted on Tuesday, in relation to six recent armed robberies.

“The suspect of Bare Root, E.C.D., has confessed to the allegations aforementioned. He also confessed to been a member of a gang who committed a series of armed robberies on the East Coast of Demerara” the police said.

The man, one of four bandits involved in the robbery at Enmore, ECD on Monday, was apprehended when he attempted, along with his accomplices to escape into the backlands of Bare Root. He was in possession of an unlicensed pistol and twelve (12) matching rounds.

The men had just carted off a quantity of valuables inclusive of a licensed handgun with (15) rounds of ammunition and a motor car from the grocer when they were noticed by a police patrol acting in a suspicious manner. In a previous statement, the police said upon realising that they had attracted the attention of the police, they opened fire on the patrols, abandoned the motor car and fled to the backlands of Bare Root.

He will be appearing in Court on Thursday to answer to six counts of robbery under arms, two counts of discharging a loaded firearm with intent, and one count each of possession of arms and ammunition without a licence.
