Man sentenced to 4 years in Prison for Causing Death by Dangerous Driving

A 27-year-old driver of 423 6th Street Rose Hall Town, was sentenced to 4 years in Prison for causing the death of 46-year-old Shermain Harper on November 26, 2015.
Devendra Singh who is also a Lecturer of the GuySuCo Training Centre at Port Mourant, was represented by Attorney-at-law Mr. Tejnarine Ramroop when he appeared at the Blairmont Magistrate Court on August 31, 2016, before Magistrate Rondel Weaver.
On November 26, 2016, Singh drove Motor Car bearing license plate PLL 9727 at a fast rate along the Rising Sun Public Road, West Coast Berbice when he struck down Harper, age 46 years of Lot 11 Seafield Village West Coast Berbice.
The case was first heard at the Blairmont Magistrate Court on November 30, 2015. Singh pleaded not guilty to the charge of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving and was placed on $600,000 bail which he subsequently paid and was released.
Several witnesses gave evidence on behalf of the state and the matter concluded on the 31st August 2016, where the court found him guilty and sentenced him to 4 years imprisonment.
