Wins for Lower Corentyne, Essequibo, West Dem and East Coast

The second round of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Jaguars Franchise League Three-day tournament concluded on Sunday afternoon with Lower Corentyne, Essequibo, West Demerara and East Coast Demerara recording outright victories.

 

There were several outstanding performances on the final day. Gajanand Suknanand took 4-67; Robin Bacchus made 57; Veerasammy Permaul bagged 5-39; Ricardo Adams snared 5-25; Kevon Boodie stroked 102; and Ershaad Ali snapped up 7-62.

Below are the summarised scores from the games.

 

At Albion, Lower Corentyne registered their second consecutive outright victory in as many matches. The home team, resuming on their overnight score of 249-6 managed to get to 290 before they were dismissed.

 

Sharaz Ramsarran finished on 30 not out. Jonathon Foo had earlier registered his second consecutive century (127) as Lower Corentyne took a vital 78-run lead. Bowling for Georgetown, Gajanan Suknanand took 4-67, Devon Lord had 3-57 and Christopher Barnwell claimed 2-40.

 

Georgetown, batting a second time, could only muster 140 with Robin Bacchus scoring 57 and Barnwell 40.

 

Veerasammy Permaul followed up his first innings four-wicket haul with 5-39 in the second innings to move to 19 wickets after the first two matches. Raun Johnson also had 2-34. Lower Corentyne then raced to 65-1 with Foo scoring an unbeaten 26, while Kandasammy Surujnarine made 24 not out.

 

 At Cumberland, Essequibo registered a come-from-behind victory against West Berbice. Resuming on 111-8, Essequibo only managed to add eight runs before they were dismissed.

 

West Berbice, in their second innings, then made 165. Avishkar Sewkarran top scored with 40, while Shimron Hetmyer scored 35. Bowling for Essequibo, Ricardo Adams bagged 5-25, while Anthony Adams supported with 3-29.

 

Kevin Boodie then struck an entertaining century to spur Essequibo to victory. Essequibo reached 216-4. Ricardo Adams returned with the bat to hit 49 and Ricardo Peters made 29. Boodie was dismissed for 102, while Kevin Jawahir had 2-47 bowling for West Berbice.

 

At Enterprise, East Coast Demerara made light work of their target of 117 against Upper Corentyne, losing four wickets in the process. Chanderpaul Hemraj scored 34, while Rajendra Chandrika ended on 31 not out.

 

At Everest, West Demerara registered their first outright victory. In their second innings, they made 236 all out. Raymon Reifer made 38 and Romario Shepherd scored 32. Tagenarine Chanderpaul top scored with 75.  Ershaad Ali bagged impressive figures of 7-62 for East Bank Demerara.  

 

With a target of 329, East Bank Demerara failed to bat out the final two sessions as they folded for 129. Mark Brown scored 40, while Sherfane Rutherford made 32. Bowling for West Demerara, Reifer had 3-14 and Rishi Looknauth took 3-45.

 

Matches will continue from this Thursday at the Everest, GCC, Port Mourant and Cumberland grounds.
