Bandits rob Black Bush Polder couple of over $500,000 in cash and jewellery

A fisherman and his wife are now counting their losses after gunmen entered their Black Bush Polder home on Tuesday (September 06, 2016) and escaped with over $500,000 in cash and jewellery.

 

The robbery occurred at about 21:00 hours.

 

According to 37-year-old Bibi Khodbux who resides in a one story wooden house at North Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice, she woke up to use the washroom when she was confronted by a man armed with a cutlass.

 

The woman said she then alerted her husband, 37-year-old Amar Budhoo who rushed to her assistance but was attacked by two other bandits who were hiding in the house.

 

Khodbux related that the bandits grabbed her husband and dealt him several lashes about his body and a chop to his chest while demanding cash and jewellery.

 

The victims became fearful for their lives and handed over their jewellery, a bag containing cash and documents following which the bandits escaped.

 

So far, the police were able to arrest two of the suspects who are in custody assisting with investigations.
