A 17-year-old male of West Coast Berbice appeared before Magistrate Randel Weaver at the Blairmont Magistrates Court to answer to the charge of rape on Tuesday, September 06, 2016.
The court heard that between April 01, 2016 and May 02, 2016, the teen allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl residing in his community.
He was arrested on Monday, September 05, 2016, after a report was made to the police by relatives of the young girl.
He was placed on $150,000 bail and is expected to report at the Weldaad Police Station every Friday until the case is completed.
The teenager will return to the Blairmont Magistrates Court on September 22, 2016.
