Top local and international teams will clash in late November when the annual Diamond Mineral Water Indoor Hockey Festival is staged at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The International Indoor Hockey Festival is the showpiece event on the Guyana Hockey Board’s calendar, with the country’s leading hockey clubs and those from beyond these shores set to compete for lucrative prizes.
Set for November 24-27, the competition is once again set to feature rivalry in three categories- Men’s, Women’s and Veterans Over-35.
Over the years, the tournament has attracted a large turnout of teams, and this year should be no different, as the local clubs would look to outdo their overseas counterparts.
According to information reaching News Room, over US$7,500 in prize money would be at stake during the four-day hockey extravaganza.
Interested teams are required to pay an entrance fee of US$400 to compete in the Men’s and Women’s categories, while the Veterans will be charged a fee of US$200.
The champion teams in the Men’s and Women’s divisions are set to receive US$3,000 each, while the runners-up will pocket US$500 each. The winner of the Veterans category is guaranteed US$500.
Putting their titles on the line will be 6ix men’s team from Canada in the Men’s category, Pizza Hut GCC in the Women’s and Hikers in the Veterans. The tournament will be coordinated by the Guyana Hockey Board.
