UPDATE; One juvenile recaptured at Corentyne


One of the male juveniles who escaped from the Juvenile Holding Centre, at Sophia has been recaptured according to the Guyana Police Force (GPF).


News Room earlier reported that three juveniles from Essequibo, Georgetown and Berbice escaped from the facility this morning. The trio was only taken to the centre yesterday, Friday, September 9 and according to the details shared with this news outlet, two were sent there for break and enter offences, while the other was sent for robbery.


In a short statement, the police said, “they allegedly dug a hole in the lower flat and scaled the fence.”


The recaptured juvenile, who hails from Adventure, Essequibo Coast, was recaptured at Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, based on information received. He  was on remand for robbery under arms.


Efforts are being made to have the two others recaptured.


The centre falls under the purview of the Ministry of Public Security and is supervised by the Guyana Police Force.
