17-year-old confessed to murder

A 17-year-old lad was arrested on Monday for the murder of a 34-year-old man of Unity, East Coast Demerara.

The police stated that the suspect has confessed to the murder of Omesh Chetram which occurred sometime between 23:30hrs on Saturday and 01:30hr. Sunday morning, at Bourda and Alexander Streets, Georgetown.

According to a police source, the young man whose name was provided, related that he was left to look over his mother’s stall at the Bourda Market.

News Room understands that the 17-year-old left the stall and upon his return noticed a man standing there whom he asked to move, however, an argument ensued and the man turned and ran behind him with a knife. It was alleged that he then picked up a knife and proceeded to stab the man.
