There have not been any sightings of two inmates, who escaped from the Lusignan Prisons on Monday morning.

Director of Prisons Carl Graham today told the News Room that prison officials received information on the possible locations of the escapees, but ranks came up empty handed.

According to Graham, steps were taken to restrict the movement of the other inmates at the facility, in an effort to secure sufficient manpower to execute searches for the escapees.

The Director said a general review of the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing to determine if anyone in particular is responsible for the escape of the prisoners.

The News Room was informed that the other inmates, who were in the yard at the time of the escape, are cooperating with the prison officials.

It was reported that fourteen prisoners were out of the compound at the time cleaning the overgrowth around the fence of the prison, when the incident took place.

On Monday morning, Rajendra Deonarine, 22 years old of Richmond Housing Scheme, Essequibo and Faos Shakir, 26 years old of Le Resouvenir, East Coast Demerara escaped from the Lusignan Prisons.

Deonarine was serving time for possession of narcotics while Shakir was serving time for a series of robberies.
