Mother hands 18-Yr-old over to cops after bus park shootout

An 18-year-old Timehri resident was on Tuesday handed over to the Guyana Police Force following a shootout with ranks in the downtown Georgetown area.

 

News Room was informed that the suspect was handed over to the police by his mother.

 

News Room understands that the teenager who was reportedly in the company of another man was seen acting in a suspicious manner by police ranks in the vicinity of High Street, Georgetown.

 

As the officers approached the duo, they began running in the direction of the bus park, simultaneously opening fire at the police. A chase ensued and the officers returned fire, however, the duo escaped.

 

During the shootout, a woman, Jean Rodrigues was accidently shot in the lower back and is presently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital. Up to last evening, her condition was listed as serious.

 

At the moment the teenager who is in police custody is denying that he opened fire on the police and that he had a gun at the time of the incident.

 

Investigations are ongoing.
