A man of Linepath Village, Corriverton, Berbice lost his life on Saturday (September 24, 2016) when his motorcycle drove into a pothole causing him to lose control and eventually slam into a utility pole.

Dead is 22-year -old Hemraj Sudama, an employee of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuco).

According to Traffic Chief of ‘B’ Division, Mr. Bhudnarine Persaud, it was reported by an eyewitness Amzad Ali, that Sudama was riding motorcycle CF 5587 along Jumai Street, #78 Village, Upper Corentyne at a fast rate when he wound up in a “pothole” and subsequently, lost control of his motorcycle, before slamming into the Guyana Power & Light Utility Pole.

Sudama was reportedly picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The traffic chief highlighted that Sudama was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and is suspected to have been intoxicated.

A post mortem is expected to be performed tomorrow to ascertain the cause of death and whether or not Sudama was indeed intoxicated at the time.

    Investigations are continuing.
