One person is confirmed dead while two others were rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex for medical attention, after being involved in an accident on the Public Road at Bamia, Soesdyke-Linden Highway on Tuesday (September 27,2016)
Dead is 38-year-old Abeola Gomes of Long Creek, Linden Highway while 31-year-old Tyon Phillip of Cultivation, Soesdyke/Linden and 23-year-old Latisha Lindore, of Haruni ,Linden Highway sustained injuries about their bodies.
According to information received, at about 13:35 hours, CRV PTT 1643 owned and driven by Tyon Phillips was heading East along the Northern carriage way at a fast rate, when the driver encountered a bump on the road and as a result lost control of the vehicle which toppled several times before coming to a halt.
Speaking with the News Room Inspector Mathew Craig attached to the traffic department of ‘E’ Division disclosed that after the vehicle came into contact with the bump on the Public Road, Gomes was flung out of the vehicle and sustained head injuries. She died moments ago while receiving treatment.
The inspector disclosed that the other two occupants were treated at the hospital and sent away.
However, after receiving news that Gomes died as a result of her injuries, the driver of the vehicle was picked up by the police and taken in custody pending investigations.
Meanwhile, Drivers are being warned about the bump on the Bamia Public road which has cause several accidents and consequently claimed the lives of three persons so far for 2016.
News Room was told that the Regional Executive Officer (REO) of region ten was informed of the issue by the traffic department but in return noted that the Ministry of Public Infrastructure will have to fix that section of the road.
Investigations are ongoing.
