A teenager who lost his life in an accident at Abary Creek, Region Five on Monday evening, has been identified as 14-year-old Doodnauth Suklall, of Dehoop Village, East Coast Demerara. Also injured during the accident is Conrad Williams, a tractor operator of Lot 12 Cottage Village, West Coast Berbice.

According to the boy’s father, 51-year-old Deonarine Suklall, a rice miller said his son left their home early on Monday morning with his colleagues to complete some works in the Abary Creek.

Police sources stated that the rice miller was driving the canter and parked it to provide light for a pontoon transporting a tractor across the Abary Creek, and exited to assist the workmen in crossing. He allegedly failed to apply the hand brakes, resulting in the canter shifting and eventually pinning his son and Williams in the process.

The incident took place approximately at 19:00 hrs last evening.

Both persons were rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital where Doodnauth Suklall was pronounced dead upon arrival. Williams sustained multiple broken bones and was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital then later to the  Georgetown Public Hospital.

The teen leaves to mourn his parents and 5 other siblings.

    Investigations are continuing.
