Update: Mother and Daughter commit suicide over outstanding debt

By Malisa Playter Harry   Diana Sawh, age 17 and her mother Madojri Sawh, age 55 of Grant 1802, CrabwoodCreek who committed suicide together on the 22ndSeptember, 2016 reportedly committed the act due to the inability to settle outstanding debts.

 

According to a relative, 17-year-old Sawh borrowed an undisclosed sum of money from a friend and was required to repay it on the said day of the incident.

 

The mother allegedly drank the poisonous substance because her daughter pawned some of her valuable items in an effort to assist in repaying the debt. This sent the woman and her daughter into a state of depression.

 

Meanwhile, brother of the dead 17-year-old told this Publication that his sister called him and informed him that their mother “drink poison”. He stated that he rushed home and found his mother lying on the ground unconscious. She was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where “Diana” also revealed that she had also consumed the poisonous substance.

 

Madojri succumbed on Friday, September 23, 2016, while Diana Sawh succumbed on  on Friday, September 30, 2016.

 

Berbice has been plagued with suicide cases over the past few months which has pushed the statistics to an all-time high.
