Hemraj smashes 250*; Yadram hits another hundred

First-Class batsman Chanderpaul Hemraj smashed a magnificent 250 not out, while national Under-19 batsman stroked 121, his second hundred of the game on Sunday when action concluded in the sixth and penultimate round of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Jaguars Franchise League Three-day competition.

 

It was a first for both batsmen- Hemraj scored the competition’s first double hundred, while Yadram became the first player to score centuries in both innings of a match.

 

Their phenomenal batting saw East Coast Demerara racking up 468-3 when stumps were drawn against Essequibo at the Imam Bacchus ground in Essequibo.

At Imam Bacchus ground, Essequibo, East Coast Demerara resuming on their overnight score of 2-1 piled up a huge total of 468-3 with Chanderpaul Hemraj smashing and unbeaten 250, while teenager Bhaskar Yadram registered his second century of the match as he followed up his first innings 118 with 121 in the second innings.

 

Hemraj smashed 19 fours and 17 towering sixes during his classy innings, while Yadram hit 14 fours and two sixes. Kamesh Yadram was the other not out batsman with 56. Bowling for Essequibo, Kemo Paul had 2-90. Final scores in the game: East Coast Demerara 316 and 468-3; Essequibo 484.

 

At Everest ground, Upper Corentyne defeated East Bank Demerara by 209 runs after East Bank Demerara were dismissed for 202, chasing 412 for victory. Steven Jacobs was the top scorer with 61, while Ershaad Ali (33), Mark Rhobe (29) and Stephan Harris (25*) were the other main contributors. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Shawn Perreira bagged 6-55, while Eon Hooper had 3-74.

 

At Cumberland ground, West Berbice, resuming on 112-2, rallied to 361, chasing 439 for victory. Avishwar Sewkarran compiled 82; Steffon Adams struck 81, Kevin Jawahir made 60, Leon Andrews 33 and Brentnol Woolford 22. Bowling for Georgetown, Christopher Barnwell took 3-51, while there were two wickets each for Sunil Singh, Devon Lord and Gajanan Suknanan.

At Tuschen ground, points leaders Lower Corentyne were bowled out for 221 in 61 overs. Devon Clements followed up his unbeaten century in the first innings with another important innings of 77, which included 10 fours and three sixes. His knock helped Lower Corentyne post a target of 217. Royston Crandon and Jonathan Foo supported with 33 and 30 respectively.

 

West Demerara, requiring 218 for victory in a minimum of 46 overs, were left stranded on 163-5 off 37.3 overs when the match was called off with 10 minutes remaining in the day’s play. Raymon Reifer and Tagenarine Chanderpaul both struck 52. Bowling for Lower Corentyne, Royston Crandon took 5-60.

 

The seventh and final round will start on Friday.
