Police hunting for perpetrators who robbed pensioner

The police are hunting for two men who attacked and robbed a pensioner of Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice on Friday, September 30, 2016.

 

63-year-old Victor Lochand was also wounded by the two bandits who broke into his East Canje home while he was asleep. He was subsequently rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for medical attention.

 

Lochand disclosed that he was asleep in the lower flat of a two-storey house where he resides alone when he was awoken by a lash to his forehead. He said he was struck by one of the suspects who was armed with a dark object and a piece of cloth tied around his nose to hide his identity.

 

He added that the suspect used a torch light to block his vision while demanding cash and other valuable. In the meantime, the other suspect ransacked the entire lower flat of the building.

 

The 63-year-old said he later handed over an undisclosed sum of cash and cellular phones which he had in his possession.

 

The suspects escaped leaving the pensioner bleeding.

 

An alarm was subsequently raised and the police were called in who took Lochand to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for medical attention. He was treated and kept under observation by doctors.

 

Several persons were questioned about the crime and released from custody.

 

Additionally, A woman of Tucber Park, New Amsterdam was also on Friday morning robbed of a quantity of articles and cash by four armed men. No one has since been arrested.\

 

Investigations into both matters are ongoing.
