A 19-year-old of Number Two Village, East Canje, Berbice was on Monday remanded to prison in connection with the recent robbery carried out on a young couple from Cumberland Village, East Canje, Berbice.

Mark Griffith, 19, appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court before Magistrate Alex Moore to answer to the charge of robbery under arms.

However, Prosecutor Godfrey Playter opposed bail on the basis of the nature and prevalence of the offence, being that a gun was allegedly used in carrying out the crime. Griffith was remanded to prison until October 21, 2016.
