Delayed wanted Bulletin issued for Barry Dataram and reputed wife

One week or more than 168 hours after it became public that drug lord, Barry Dataram has escaped Guyana, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has finally released a wanted bulletin for Dataram and his reputed wife, Anjanine Boodnarine.

 

Anjanine Boodnarine called ‘Cindy’ and Barry Dataram called ‘Kevin Dataram’ or ‘Kevin Mogatani’, are wanted by the police for possession of ammunition without licence and possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking which occurred on April 16, 2015, at Lot 661 Block X, 4th Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

 

Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Anjanine Boodnarine called ‘Cindy’ and Barry Dataram called ‘Kevin Dataram’ or ‘Kevin Mogatani’, is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 227-2128, 226-1389, 226-7065, 268-2343, 268-2298, 225-2227, 911 or the nearest police station.

 

Drug lord, Barry Dataram, was on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 charged in absentia for being in possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking in April, 2015.

 

Dataram were to appear in Court with his reputed wife, Anjanie Boodnarine and their friends Trevor Gouveia and Komal Charran, however, only Gouveia and Chandan showed up to hear the ruling by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

 

While Magistrate Latchman noted that a prima facie case had not been made out against Boodnarine, Gouveia and Charran and the trio was therefore not guilty of the crime, Dataram was fined $164,268,000 and sentenced him to 60 months’ imprisonment.

 

Speaking on the Dataram’s escape recently, President David Granger urged members of the local law enforcement community to work with their counterparts in neighbouring countries and to use every possible legitimate avenue to locate and transport the convicted drug lord back to Guyana.

 

The President said that Dataram’s flight from Guyana, was something, which could have been avoided.

 

“Mr. Dataram is a person of interest. He is a well-known character in Guyana and I would expect that even though the judicial branch is separate, there should be a greater level of alertness on the part of the Magistracy, in the Judiciary, in matters like this and I don’t regard it as a failing on the part of law enforcement agencies but it is definitely an error which ought to have been avoided” the President said in an invited comment.

 

He further stated that information suggests that Mr. Dataram is not a Guyanese and might have absconded using a passport not issued by the government of Guyana.

 

The question was also posed to Assistant Commissioner of Police, David Ramnarine who told media operatives “If it were that high profile matter and it was properly regarded by the appropriate people, we were not the ones who granted him bail. I am saying nothing more.”
