Operation Safeway records remarkable decrease in accidents
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), there has been a 44.4% decrease in fatal accidents from September 15th to October 6th, 2016, relative to the same period last year.
This it said is as a result of Operation Safeway launched on September 15, 2016.
Additionally, there has been a 47% decrease in serious accidents, a 21.4% decrease in minor accidents and a 40% decrease in accidents where damages were incurred.
Further, 4,250 cases have been made for the period, of which 1,371 persons were charged with speeding; 1,863 were tested for alcohol of which 274 of them were charged, having been found to be above the prescribed limit.
254 of those charged with driving under the influence were tested by night and twenty by day.
The remaining 2,605 cases were for other traffic offences.
