Update; Corentyne man arrested for raping 12 year old

The police in Berbice have arrested a 42-year-old Cane Harvester from the lower Corentyne, Berbice who went into hiding after raping a 12-year-old family member on October 03, 2016.

According to a police source, the suspect was hiding out at his mother’s home at Rose Hall Town on the Corentyne but decided to return home following reports in the media on the incident.

He was arrested on Saturday by ranks from the Whim Police Station.

The suspect (name withheld) was placed on station bail to the sum of $5,000 at the Whim Police Station earlier and failed to appear at the Whim Magistrates Court on Thursday, October 06, 2016 where he was scheduled to appear before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.

According to the GPF, the 42-year-old suspect will be appearing in court on Monday, October 10, 2016, to answer to the charges.

Investigations are ongoing.
