Region six Education Officer Volika Jaikishoon yesterday met with the administrative board and staff of the Tagore Memorial Secondary School after reports surfaced in the media about a teacher encouraging students to engage in “smoking marijuana” at the school.

Chairman of the board Charlie Amar confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the matter along with other issues that have surfaced recently.

He said there are two sides to every story and expressed confidence that the truth will be revealed.

Meanwhile, on the basis of anonymity some teachers at the institution said the allegations against the teacher may be true since the rumour has been around for some time now.

News Room recently reported that a teacher attached to the learning institution was allegedly involved in unacceptable activities with students.

He is accused of giving students marijuana to “smoke “during school hours.

Claims have surfaced that the said teacher has been disrespectful to students making reference to them as “dunces.”

It was also reported that a teacher was arrested and placed before the courts for sexual assault of a female student.

Parents are complaining that reports to the head teacher have fallen on “deaf ears.”
