A tractor operator identified as Taijram Jainarine, age 57 of #69 Village, Corentyne, Berbice was on Monday attacked and killed by Africanised bees on the Skeldon Estate.
News Room understands that Jainarine and his colleagues were constructing a road in the Backdam of the Skeldon Estate when the swarm of bees attacked them.
It was revealed to News Room that an employee attached to the Skeldon Estate managed to escape the bees by hiding in a clump of bushes. He noted that after he noticed what seemed to be bees approaching them, he ran past Jainarine and hid in a bush, under the impression that Jainarine had also hidden. However, after some time had passed he noticed the bees had left and began to call for Jainarine. It was then that he heard a painful moan and came out of his hiding spot to notice the 57-year-old man lying a few meters away from his tractor.
Jainarine was taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the wife and other relatives of the now dead man were too grief-stricken to speak with the media.
