UG students awarded full scholarships from Courts Guyana Inc

Three University of Guyana students chosen from over 25 applicants were today, through the Courts Scholarship Programme awarded full scholarships.

 

According to the company, the scholarship is open to customers of Courts or the children of Courts customers.

Several criteria were outlined and it was based on those criteria that the first three students were selected.

 

These students will also be eligible to have the scholarship renewed yearly until they complete their studies once they maintain the prerequisite GPA.

 

During the award ceremony, Managing Director Clyde De Haas while urging the recipients to strive for greater heights explained that Courts has for many years been actively involved in several educational programmes.

Guest speaker, Deputy Mayor, Sherod Duncan called on other Corporate entities to come on board with similar initiatives to assist students in accomplishing their dreams, since thus in turn would benefit the entire country.

Third year law student Tyra Bakker expressed gratitude for the gesture noting that it will ease much of her financial burden while allowing her to focus more on her studies.

Fourth year Bachelor’s of Science, Environmental Health student, Olivia Parris- Bowen expressed similar sentiments, noting that with the new loan stipulations at the University, the scholarship would alleviate the stress for her.

Meantime, Mahin Sugrim, a First year Computer Science student said the burden has been lifted from his students and will also allow him to focus on his goals, which include him contributing meaningfully to Guyana Information Technology Sector.

Each year, new students will be able to apply for the scholarship in addition to those already in the programme.

 

The company says it will continue to review the programme over time to ensure that it remains beneficial to customers.
