A fire of unknown origin has completely destroyed a two-storeyed wooden building at #69 Village Corentyne Berbice at about 21:00 hours on Wednesday, October 12, 2016.

The building is owned by 80-year-old Palwao Chandrapaul of the United States and is being occupied by Ramcharran Dandoop and his Wife Lynette Dandoop.

According to Ramcharran, he and his wife were downstairs having dinner when they smelled smoke. The man said he then peeked through a crease in the wall and observed flames coming out of the middle bedroom. He immediately raised an alarm and a call was made to the Guyana Fire Service (GFS).

However, by the time the Fire Service arrived on the scene, the entire building was engulfed in flames which led them to turn their attention to nearby buildings to prevent the fire from spreading.

The Guyana Fire Service and the police are investigating the incident.
