One in custody following robbery at Chinese Restaurant

A 23-year-old suspect of Middle Street, La Penitence, Georgetown, was last evening arrested following a robbery at La Parfaite Harmonie, Canal No# 1 Polder, West Bank Demerara.

According to a police report, the man along with an accomplice pounced on two victims, ages 46 and 48 at the Jods Chinese Restaurant in La Parfaite Harmonie and relieved them of their valuables including a wallet and an undisclosed amount of cash.

However, during the ordeal in which a round was discharged, a scuffle ensued and the magazine of the firearm fell out and was retrieved by one of the victims.

At that stage, the suspect who was in possession of the gun, threw the weapon to his accomplice who caught same and escaped. But unfortunately for the 23-year-old, he was firmly held and handed over to the police who promptly arrived.

The wallet with the cash belonging to one of the victims was found in the possession of the suspect and returned.

Diligent efforts are being made to have the other suspect arrested.

The incident occurred at about 23:30 hrs.
