UPDATE; 14-year-old is person of interest in Mahaicony businesswoman’s murder

A teenager was arrested and is in police custody assisting with investigations into the gruesome murder of a Mahaicony Businesswoman early this morning at her home.

Police sources have confirmed that the 14-year-old from Good Faith, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara; described as a person of interest was arrested after neighbours disclosed to police that the suspect was engaged in a heated argument with the businesswoman several days ago over some coconuts.

The body of 56-year-old Bibi Ally of lot 6 Novar, Mahaicony, E.C.D. was discovered by her nephew at about 6:00hrs with her hands and feet tied and her mouth gagged. There were also marks of violence about her body.

Divisional Commander, Marlon Chapman earlier confirmed that it is not clear what is the motive behind the murder was, however, when police arrived on the scene, the house was ransacked.

Investigations are currently ongoing.
