Overseas-based Guyanese robbed; male shot to neck

The police have arrested a 21-year- old male suspect of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara following a robbery under arms committed in the community earlier this morning.

According to reports, at about 03:00hrs this morning, an overseas- based Guyanese was robbed of a quantity of gold jewellery at her Herstelling, EBD residence, shortly after a family reunion.

Enquiries disclosed that four masked gunmen entered the residence shortly after the guests departed and proceeded to relieve the woman of her valuables.

During the ordeal, a 42-year-old male of Peter’s Hall put up a struggle with one of the gunmen and was shot to his neck, after which the men escaped.

The shot victim was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital and was transferred to the GPHC where he underwent surgery. His condition is regarded as stable but serious.

Investigations are ongoing.
